Bollywood hits bring success for Eros International

Bollywood movie distributor Eros International today posted a 33.8% rise in first-half profit, helped by the box office success of Indian hit films.

Revenue from its theatrical division grew, and the company saw a promising start to its second half.

Among its most successful films was comedy sequel Golmaal 3, which has grossed $15.5 million (£9.6 million) globally since is release last week, the company saw a promising start to its second half.

Eros, whose Indian unit recently listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, said it was positive about its outlook, thanks to a vibrant pipeline of projects.

The company's slate includes sci-fi movie RA.One, starring Indian A-listers Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, and No Problem, featuring Slumdog Millionaire actor Anil Kapoor.

Pre-tax profit for the six months to September 30 was $27.9 million (£17.4 million), compared with $20.8 million a year ago. Turnover rose 20.3% to $68 million (£42 million).
