BP boss upbeat on solution to Russia dispute

BP chief executive Bob Dudley today declared he was confident its Russian row would be resolved despite no sign of a deal ahead of key deadline next week.

The British giant's share-swap deal tying it together with state-owned Rosneft expires on Monday. But the billionaire oligarch shareholders of BP's existing BP-TNK Russian joint venture are still fighting the deal and seeking compensation for being sidelined.

"I think there is always lots of discussion going on and I think we will find a resolution to this over time," said Dudley.

If the Rosneft deal expires on Monday, BP could have to renegotiate it and face paying $1.5 billion (£923 million) more because of the fall in the value of its shares and the rise in Rosneft's.
