Broker WH Ireland suspends directors

A boardroom bust-up at stockbroker WH Ireland has resulted in two directors being immediately suspended.

Laurie Beevers and David Youngman are sure to be consulting their lawyers after being told by the rest of the board that they cannot continue to do their jobs - at least for now.

The reasons for the row are not clear.

The company declined to comment beyond a brief statement this morning to the stock market. The statement noted that Beevers and Youngman have indicated they plan to vote against the re-election of other board members at next week's annual meeting - including chief executive Richard Ford and chairman Rupert Lowe.

They also intend to oppose a proposed rights issue.

Youngman is head of corporate finance, while Beevers is executive deputy chairman

WH Ireland recently saw a merger deal with rival Blue Oar fall apart at the last minute.

In 2008, it made a loss of £4 million on turnover that slumped 24% to £32.6 million.
