Online orders on mobiles lift Domino's

Domino's Pizza UK said its online sales have powered ahead to account for more than half of delivered sales, as the group posted an uplift in profits after a record year for store openings.

The pizzas delivery specialist also grew its underlying sales by 3% over the year to 25 December, although this represents a sharp drop on a 11.9% jump the previous year.

Lance Batchelor, the new chief executive of Domino's, said: "The business is in extremely robust shape."

Boosted by a surge in orders on mobile devices, the 726-stores group's online sales leapt by 43% to £183.1 million, representing 44.3% of delivered sales, but they now account for more than half.

Batchelor said: "We are rapidly becoming an online business." Its pre-tax profits, before losses associated with its fledgling German operation, rose by 14.6% to £43.6 million. Lifted by a record 62 new stores, Domino's total sales jumped by 9.3% to £530.6 million.
