D1 Oils settles for less in dispute with US rival

Alternative energy company D1 Oils today admitted it only expects to get £1 million in settlement for a dispute with an unnamed US rival — a quarter of what it originally trumpeted.

D1 makes what it claims is green fuel from the jatropha plant, a tropical oilseed-bearing tree.

Back in March D1 said it was "pleased to report" the company was in receipt of a "final and binding" award of £4.2 million.

But in a statement to the stockmarket today it said: "The directors have taken into account a complex legal background, as well as the financial condition of the debtor, in assessing the cash value of the settlement."

D1 shares were unchanged in early trading this morning at 5¾p.
