Diamond and Agius to host Davos dinner

Barclays executives were today set to press ahead with a glittering mountain-top dinner in Davos despite the sense of crisis engulfing the bank.

Bob Diamond, head of Barclays Capital, and Frits Seegers, head of global retail and commercial banking, are attending the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort this week with chairman Marcus Agius. Chief executive John Varley and finance director Chris Lucas will stay in London.

"Bob Diamond and Frits Seegers should be doing business. That is their job," Varley said. "A lot of our clients are in Davos and we will have a lot of meetings with clients."
