DVD subscription firm Lovefilm says rentals for the Iraq war thriller shot up by 117% in 24 hours following its six awards on Sunday, including best director and best film.

Other winning titles also bounced off the back of their victories, with The Young Victoria, which won best costume Oscar, up 37%, and best animation winner Up rising 19%.

Pre-orders for winning titles that are yet to be released on DVD also rose dramatically.

Orders for Sandra Bullock's best actress-winning film The Blind Side shot up by 252%, Jeff Bridges' Crazy Heart, which landed him the best actor Oscar, were up 212% and Precious, in which gave Mo'Nique a best supporting actress title, rose by 129%.

Films which rose from obscurity thanks to the Oscars had the most dramatic rises, with pre-orders of best foreign language film winner El Secreto De Sus Ojos up 3,115%.

Lovefilm editor Helen Cowley said: "It is now only a matter of time before the public catches up with the film's [The Hurt Locker's] critical success and it's highly likely that the DVD will dominate the rental charts for months to come."
