End of the line for coffee shop chain Puccino's
17 December 2009
Many of London's stations, including Waterloo, Victoria and Euston, hosted branches of Puccino's, which sold more than 5.5 million espresso shots a year.
Administrators Tenon Recovery said 14 units had already closed over the past few months, and another 29 would stop trading "immediately".
The remaining 43 outlets were transferred to Puccino's Worldwide Ltd. and they remain open.
Coffee shops have been hit hard by the downturn. High Street giant Coffee Republic went into administration in July, while other failures include BB's Coffee & Muffins, O'Briens and Tchibo.
Coffee shop consultancy Allegra Strategies said the industry has shown "remarkable resilience" during the recession, with total sales up 6.2% on last year at £1.63 billion.
But it added that growth has slowed from 15% in the previous 12 months.
