Eversheds has third round of redundancies

The struggle facing London's legal sector was laid bare today as the UK's eighth-largest firm announced its third round of redundancies in a year.

Eversheds has already shed 73 staff but said 10 property lawyers are now facing the chop.

City rival LG also announced a redundancy programme for 18 support staff and 15 lawyers.

And US firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom offered all London staff one year's sabbatical.

The announcements came as insurance and personal injury law firm Hextalls escaped insolvency by entering into a pre-pack arrangement where a small group of partners will buy the business.
