Ex-Goldman man is picked to run bailout

US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson is expected to name a former colleague at Goldman Sachs, Neel Kashkari, to oversee the $700 billion banking bailout programme.

Kashkari, currently a Treasury Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, will be appointed interim head of Treasury's new Office of Financial Stability today, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Kashkari, who ran Goldman's information technology security investment banking practice in San Francisco before joining the Treasury, will oversee the Treasury's effort to buy bad loans and other distressed securities.
