Harrods cuts its prices for some
06 May 2008
The Knightsbridge department store wrote to 10,000 of its Harrods Reward store card customers, offering them cut-price deals on international women's fashion between 2 and 11 May.
Several fashion houses which supply Harrods are believed to be privately concerned as it is relatively early in the season to slash prices, and also because the store is a stone's throw from their flagship boutiques on Sloane Street.
A Harrods spokesman insisted the 20% discount was not a response to the credit crunch, and was aimed at only a small number of its 300,000 Reward card holders.
"One of the benefits of the card is special events and also, on occasions, targeted discounts in the whole department," said the spokesman. Ordinary customers who walk into the store are not eligible for the discount, which is not being advertised.
There have been rumours that Harrods could bring forward its summer sale but the store said there were no plans to change the 30 June launch date.
