High TV demand pushes LG up 62%

LG Electronics, the world's third-largest manufacturer of mobile phones and flat-screen televisions, seemed impervious to the effects of a global recession today as it reported a 62% leap in profits.

The South Korean firm, which also sells goods in the UK, earned 1.15 trillion won (£563 million) in the three months to the end of June — a quarterly record.

Sales rose 17% to 8.48 trillion won thanks to strong demand for flat-screen TVs.
