Hollywood roles help LEGO’s star performance

It is the sort of robust performance that the beleaguered construction sector would be delighted with.

Toy manufacturer LEGO, famed for its colourful building blocks and elaborate designs, has reported a 34% leap in sales to 5.86 billion Danish krona (£646.7 million) in the first half of the year.

LEGO credited Hollywood-branded tie-ins with the recent Toy Story and Prince of Persia movies as well as a new range of LEGO board games.

UK boss Marko Ilincic says LEGO is on course for a sixth-consecutive year of growth, with new Harry Potter products launching before Christmas.

The Danish-based company warned it is making "stringent" cuts to costs as the recovery in the wider toy market remains uncertain.
