Hopes run high for job switchers

Bankers and accountants ask big pay rises when they move jobs despite the woes engulfing Wall Street, the City and Canary Wharf.

A report by specialist financial services recruiter Robert Walters found that most professionals expect a seriously chunky uplift in their remuneration when switching jobs.

It found one in six thought their pay should go up by 30% or more, around a third by more than 20% and another two-fifths by at least 10%.

Those expecting the biggest rises were thinking about new positions in the Far East.

"The fact is that candidates with the requisite skills remain in short supply," said Robert Walters' Chris Hickey.

"Economic uncertainty and financial troubles may be dominating the headlines, but across a wide range of sectors, employers continue to offer attractive packages to capture talent with specialist skillsets."
