IG still plays a winning game at £125 million

IG Group, which also offers currency trading, today said revenue and profits for the 12 months to the end of May will comfortably beat last year. Profits should come in at £125 million, compared with £98 million, on revenues up to £257 million from £184 million.
The firm said year-on-year organic revenue growth was 18% in the final quarter, compared with 12% over the third quarter, despite the lower market volatility that can be helpful to brokers.
IG can claim to have pioneered spread betting in the UK. It was founded by Sir Stuart Wheeler, the deeply eurosceptic gambler and sometime Tory benefactor.
The appeal of spread betting continues to widen. In the last year 74,000 new accounts were opened, a rise of 76%.
The firm said it "remains difficult to predict future trends in volatility or customer reaction to changing market and economic conditions". IG will report full-year results on 21 July.
