Jil Sander is sold to Japan for 167m

Minimalist fashion designer Jil Sander has been sold to the Japanese owners of the Joseph chain after a successful turnaround in the hands of a British private-equity firm.

Change Capital Partners, the private-equity firm founded by former Marks & Spencer chairman Luc Vandevelde, bought Jil Sander from Prada for an undisclosed sum two and a half years ago.

Today it sold the business which has 61 shops around the world to Tokyo-listed Onward Holdings for 167 million.

Under the ownership of Change Capital the brand has swun g from losses of 121.9 million in 2005 to earnings of 6.1 million in 2007.
