London firms say the worst may be over

Business confidence in London is recovering on hopes the worst of the recession could be over, a survey found today.

However, most firms still worry about their prospects for the next 12 months as the downturn bites.

"Although it is still far too early to talk about recovery, these gradual increases in confidence among business people suggest London businesses expect to see some signs of recovery within the next 12 months," said Dr Helen Hill of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The LCCI said 29% of London firms expect prospects to improve over the next year, up five points from the final quarter of 2008.
