Lukoil eyeing possible Regal tie-up

Russian oil companies LUKOIL and TNK-BP are mulling a possible acquisition of a stake in UK-listed Regal Petroleum's core Ukrainian assets, industry sources said today.

The talks could even lead to a full acquisition of Regal, which is worth around $165 million based on its closing share price yesterday, sources said.

Regal said late last year it was inviting bids from industry partners to take a stake in its Ukraine gas fields, in return for helping to finance the fields' development.

The sources said no bids have yet been received.

Regal declined to comment. TNK-BP and LUKOIL were unavailable for immediate comment.

Shares in Regal were trading down 8.6% at 48p this morning.
