Luminar nightclubs fail to tempt revellers on cold nights

The group, which has 89 venues across Britain, warned today that pre-tax profit for the year to 25 February would be below expectations.
It said it was encouraged by better sales over Christmas but like-for-like sales last month were 13.8 per cent below last year. December's lower figures were in line with a trend since September with sales 13.4 per cent lower.
Nightclub sales were down 8.1 per cent across the first 44 weeks of the financial year to 31 December.
Luminar said last month that it would need a strong Christmas to meet market expectations. Forecasts for full-year pre-tax profit ranged between £6 million and £13.9 million, with the consensus at £8.7 million. The company blamed the decline on youth unemployment and the general poor economic conditions, as well as the weather.
The firm confirmed today that it had agreed a trial with music and books retailer HMV to pick up each other's customers across markets.
