Manganese black cab sales skid 30%

Sales of London taxi cabs have plummeted 30% over the last year as cabbies keep their wallets in their pockets, fearful of an economic downturn and waiting to see what the new Mercedes black cabs are going to look like.

Manganese Bronze, maker of the iconic black cabs, said its UK revenues are down 7%. It blamed the crash in sales also on the tough comparatives against a year ago, when the newly-launched TX4 model meant strong sales.

Manganese Bronze is planning to broaden its international exposure with a Chinese-built cab set to go into production by the end of the year. First-half group profits came in at £1.5 million.
