Margaret Cole on board to fire up the City regulator

The Financial Services Authority today moved to beef up its board by appointing Margaret Cole, the heavyweight head of enforcement and financial crime at the City regulator, to its executive team.

The news comes after Jon Pain, managing director and head of supervision, and Sally Dewar, the FSA's other managing director, said they would quit the FSA early next year, before the Government abolishes it in 2012.

In its place, it will set up a Prudential Regulatory Authority at the Bank of England and an independent consumer protection and markets agency.

FSA chief executive Hector Sants is to head the PRA, with Cole likely to be appointed his deputy or lead a new economic crime agency.
