Metals trader Williams ups its offer on Wogen

Veteran titanium trader Colin Williams was forced to raise his bid for Wogen today, the London-based exotic metals firm he founded, after investors pushed for a better deal.

Williams, who set up Wogen more than 30 years ago and is part of a proposed management buyout, increased the bid from £16.2million to £18.4 million.

The attempted buyout by Williams, a former deputy chairman, and the current Wogen management team comes only four years after the 67-year-old made £11million when the firm was floated on AIM.

The increased bid, from 36p a share to 41p a share, sent shares up 6p to 38p today. Wogen was trading at 90p a share a year ago.

Wogen also warned that the "difficult market conditions" which saw it lose £3 million in the first half of the year "have continued into the second half".
