Racal Acoustics faces £100m sale

Racal Acoustics, the Harrow-based manufacturer of military communications headsets, is to be put up for auction with a likely price tag of £100 million.

The firm, which provides equipment for Bradley and Abrams armoured vehicles and Challenger and Warrior tanks, is owned by privateequity group ECI Partners. It bought the business from rival JF Lehman three years ago for just over £50 million.

ECI Partners has appointed corporate finance boutique Hawkpoint to analyse options for the business, with the most likely being an auction at the end of the year.

Racal Acoustics has apparently received several unsolicited approaches.

The company makes personal communications equipment designed for use in the battlefield.

Management, led by managing director Geoff Eeles and sales chief Terry Buckley, could make big sums in a takeover.
