SCi putting its faith in Lara Croft and Conan

Computer games maker SCi entertainment is hoping Lara Croft will come to its rescue.

The next edition of the Tomb Raider series starring the pneumatic character will be out in November, timed to lead a Christmas sales push.

SCi has been zapped this year - its shares are a tenth of their price in September last year, when the company turned away an unnamed bidder, a decision investors may be regretting. Today SCi said in a trading update it has £28 million in hand thanks to "prudent cash management".

It described the financial year to the end of June as one of "restructuring and transition". Sales for the 12 months are due to be £134 million, while losses will be "no more than" £100 million.

SCi raised £60 million last month via a deep-discount share offer. Investors Thorson and Warner Bros have representatives on the board after supporting the issue.

In January, Sci parted company with Jane Cavanagh, the chief executive who founded it 20 years ago.

New boss Phil Rogers said the business is in good shape to take advantage of the strong market for video gaming worldwide. Lara aside, the group also has hopes for Age of Conan, which was released in May and is selling well.
