Siemens to sue scandal bosses

Troubled German engineering giant Siemens wants to go after the former executive committee members in charge when the slush-fund scandal was at its peak.

Siemens wants millions of pounds in compensation from the top bosses who either ordered, were involved in or turned blind eyes to the Euro 1.3 billion (£1.04 billion) used to bribe for business overseas.

It is the first time the company, which now has an aggressive anti-corruption compliance officer, Andreas Pohlmann, has turned against the former hierarchy.

"According to my estimates, former executive committee members were either actively involved in the corruption scandal, or they ignored it. In either case, they seriously neglected their duties," he said.

He said there may be "individual cases" where Siemens demands millions in compensation.

Last month it was revealed that many middle managers who acted as "bagmen" for the illicit payments were handsomely rewarded upon retirement to keep quiet.
