S&N in no sweat over swine flu

Smith & Nephew (S&N), the artificial joints maker, today shrugged off concerns it would be laid low by swine flu as it posted a 13.8% jump in first-half pre-tax profits to $322 million (£195.8 million).

Analysts have warned that S&N could be hit as hospitals postpone elective procedures to free up beds, but chief executive David Illingworth said: "We are not expecting it to have any impact — we have seasonal flu outbreaks every year."
