Sport magazine is on extra time after Talksport deal
22 May 2009
The lads' mag with its section on "nubile young ladies with a vague sporting link" has found a new home at another bastion of male outspokenness, talksport radio.
The radio station's parent UTV Media has bought Sport from the administrators.
The magazine, which has claimed to be the UK's largest-selling weekly sports magazine with a circulation which has been as high as 317,000, stopped publication last month after the failure of its French parent company.
The rescue has saved the job of award-winning editor Simon Caney and his 20 staff, who are moving into talksport's Southwark's office, which already publishes talksport magazine.
Adam Bullock, talksport sales director, said: "There are obvious synergies between talksport and Sport magazine with both brands targeting male-focused advertisers."
When Sport was closed its then publishing director admitted advertising revenues since the height of the banking crisis last autumn had collapsed.
