The wind of change is on way for banks

Banks will be holding their breath until next month when the Treasury is expected to publish its paper on what the Chancellor said would be "wide-ranging reform" for the industry.

This will include proposals on corporate governance, remuneration, more transparency of capital liquidity and a single set of accounting rules.

The Chancellor also said all "important institutions including hedge funds" would come under the new rules.

"Each banking organisation will now need to consider how to achieve a transition to a very different world," said KPMG head of retail banking David Sayer.
