Top EMI executive Chris Kennedy quits for easyJet

EMI, the music label behind Robbie Williams and Coldplay, suffered a blow today when chief investment officer Chris Kennedy quit to become group finance director of budget airline easyJet.
Mr Kennedy, who has been at EMI since 1993, was one of the few top executives at the recorded music division who stayed on after private equity giant Terra Firma bought it in 2007.
It is understood that Terra Firma boss Guy Hands had a high opinion of Kennedy, who had a nine-year career in management consultancy and private equity before entering the music industry.
Mr Hands appointed Mr Kennedy as EMI's chief financial officer in April 2008 and the label promoted him again to chief investment officer and president of corporate development in May 2009.
Mr Kennedy sat on the executive committee of EMI Music as one of chief executive Elio Leoni-Sceti's three most senior lieutenants. Terra Firma has had problems with its £3.2 billion purchase of EMI and is embroiled in a legal battle with lender Citigroup.
EasyJet said it did not expect Mr Kennedy to join until the summer. The airline's boardroom has been a merry-go-round in recent months, as founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou clashed with directors.
Chief executive Andrew Harrison will quit in June while Sir Michael Rake took over as chairman in January. Previous finance director Jeff Carr, who earned a basic salary £360,000, was poached last May by transport firm FirstGroup.
