Twilight and Stieg Larsson aid St Ives despite mags trouble

Stephenie Meyer's top-selling Twilight vampire novels and Swedish writer Stieg Larsson's Millennium detective trilogy have proved a boon for printers St Ives.

Chief executive Patrick Martell said today the books business, responsible for around a fifth of turnover, was performing strongly.

But he warned that the magazine-printing division remained "particularly challenged", a week after St Ives lost a contract from NME and Country Life publisher IPC.

He said he would not offer a "sub-economic" price to keep IPC: "There is no point locking into long-term commitments where we won't make a margin."
The majority of its business comes from printing corporate literature and point-of-sale displays for retailers.

Underlying revenue from continuing operations tumbled 10% to £187.1 million in the six months to 29 January. Pre-tax profits rose 35% to £8.4 million, before restructuring costs.
