Seriously weird: the Trachtenburg Family bring their loopy DIY home life to the stage

Look here too

A seriously weird American family, inventive stand-up Dan Antopolski and two successful acts returning from Edinburgh make up Bruce Dessau's comedy picks.

Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players
Soho Theatre, W1
A welcome London residency for the American mum, dad and daughter comedy-music combo. This seriously weird, engagingly shambolic indie-vaudevillian trio's latest wheeze is a live sitcom, bringing their loopy DIY home life to the stage. Hardcore Trachtenburg fans and kids can also see 13-year-old Rachel's solo shows at 11am on 1, 8 &15 September.
(0870 429 6883) Until 15 September, 9.30pm

Dan Antopolski
Banana Cabaret, SW12
Catch inventive stand-up Antopolski fresh from a big role in BBC2's spaced-out cult sitcom Hyperdrive. Obsessive movie buffs with a finger on the freeze frame facility may also recognise the bearded wordplay merchant for his blink-and-you've-missed-it turn as Jesus in The Da Vinci Code. Plus Dan Evans, Felix Dexter, Paul B Edwards.
(020 8682 8940) Friday 31 Aug & Sat 1 Sept, 9pm.

Adam Bloom
Chuckle Club, WC2
Manic Londoner Bloom delivered a great Edinburgh Fringe show this summer, which included the hilarious account of an argument with his anger-management therapist and you may well get excerpts from that in this shorter club set. A strong supporting cast includes Andy Parsons and Simon Munnery. Eugene Cheese comperes.
(020 7476 1672) Sat 1 Sept, 7.45pm.

Nick Doody
Hampstead Comedy Club, NW3
Like Adam Bloom above, Nick Doody is another Edinburgh-returning performer ploughing straight back into the circuit following a good Fringe where his intelligent, snappy, joke-packed solo show picked up fine reviews. Doody is joined here by bold, brassy Ninia Benjamin, Tom Walamies, Paolo Ferari and MC Ivor Dembina.
(020 7633 9539) Sat 1 Sept, 9pm.

Matt Green, Paul Foot
Wheatsheaf, W1
Two comedians who are going to be big names sooner or later, so why not catch them now while they are small and cheap? Green is a baby-faced observational stand-up, Foot is an eccentric, foppish oddity who is a bit of an acquired taste somewhere between Frankie Howerd and Julian Clary, but one well worth acquiring.
