Hard-hitting American Joe Regan, Dave Johns and Stephen K Amos, the underrated Milton Jones, Lawrence Leung and the king of antipodean kitsch, Bob Downe, are this weekend's comedy picks.

Joe Rogan
Arts Theatre
This hard-hitting American recently hit the headlines when he started to confront other comedians onstage about their alleged gag thievery. You can see shakey footage of him doing that very thing on youtube, or you can see his own sharp show, Shiny Happy Jihad.
(0870 060 1742) 6 & 7 Sept, 10pm.

Dave Johns/Stephen K Amos
Laughing Boy @ Aka, WC1
Amos is one of the finest comperes on the scene and has also become an excellent storyteller. He hands MCing duties to skilful Kiwi Jared Christmas on 6 Sept to do a turn at the first show in a new season at the friendly, popular club. Seasoned Geordie Dave Johns completes the merriment.
(020 7836 0110) 6 Sept, 7.15pm.

Milton Jones
Etcetera Theatre, NW1
Your last chance to catch this criminally underrated stand-up whose forté is twisting language and finding laughs in the oddest of places. A true champion of the well-crafted one-liner who doesn't need to resort to ironic political incorrectness to get the giggles going.
(020 7482 4857) 6 Sept, 9.30pm

Lawrence Leung
Soho Theatre
If you've seen Josie Long recently you may already know about award-winning Leung - he's the friend who accompanies her to meet the baker of her favourite loaf of bread. Leung is currently enjoying his first London run in which he recalls his efforts to breakdance and be as cool as his older brother.
(0870 429 6883) Until 8 Sept, 9pm.

Bob Downe
Bloomsbury Theatre
A return to London after a five-year break for the king of antipodean kitsch. Downe is best known for his synthetic clothes, synthetic hair and cheesy banter, but there is a more musical, cabaret-influenced edge to this latest show, which recreates the mellow sounds of the 1950s, 60s & 70s.
(020 7388 8822) 7 & 8 September, 8pm.
