Dynamo has been called Bradford's answer to David Blaine and he has entertained the rich and famous from Coldplay to Prince Charles.

All this young, streetwise magician who mixes dance moves with sleight-of-hand now needs is some decent patter and he will be unstoppable.

This late-night residency feels more like a television pilot, with the hip hop Houdini working through his stunning stunts while his onstage DJ provides a musical backdrop. Between the trickery, the corny verbals are every bit as cheesy as the overripe lines used by veteran Marc Salem.

But we are here to witness his illusions rather than his limp gags, and in this department Dynamo certainly delivers. He makes playing cards flip, spin and bodypop, he reads minds and he even pulls off a broken-bottle variant of a hidden-knife trick that left Salem with a bloody hand a few years ago.

It's a shame that between the graceful magic the momentum plummets as the unassuming star shuffles awkwardly around the stage. If he improves his banter, Dynamo could really generate some electricity.
