Nick Einhorn: A dead ringer for the young Clive James

By Bruce Dessau
18 Dec 2007

How's this for a disappearing act? John Lenahan regularly presents Monday's magic shows at the Etcetera but last night he materialised in Dubai rather than Camden.

It was presumably an irresistibly lucrative offer rather than a spot of astral flying that prompted his absence - but like a true pro he booked a stalwart substitute.

Nick Einhorn has entertained the likes of Sir John Major and billionaire Lakshmi Mittal and you can see his appeal.

This dead ringer for the young Clive James is a harmless but supremely slick magician who does all the tricks in the big Magic Circle book without breaking sweat and throws in the ripe Gorgonzola patter for no extra charge.

If, as I wrote yesterday, Lee Mack is the anti-Russell Brand, then the clean-cut Einhorn is the anti-Jerry Sadowitz, performing similar stunts but without the sewer mouth.

His sleight-of-hand was perfect for this intimate venue, where everyone watched in awe as he made cards, coins and jewellery flip and spin as if by, well, magic.

In the second half there was more than a hint of Derren Brown about his mentalism as he predicted whatever the audience cared to think of.

He also demonstrated a breathtaking optical illusion that made his head appear to swell. With an act as accomplished as this, Einhorn's head is probably swollen enough already.

Details are correct at the time of publication - please check with venue before booking.

Amazing stuff!! Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. A very VERY highly polished magician.

I found the show truely inspiring. The entire audience was stunned and amazed at most of the tricks Nick performed. It left me thinking 'how on earth did he just do that'. A true superstar.
