Will Gompertz is light on laughs

Edinburgh Comedy: Will Gompertz’s show was not very funny but he is director of media at the Tate, rather than a jokesmith.
His engaging Double Art History is basically a whistlestop Modernism for Dummies crammer. It is in the Comedy Section of the brochure presumably because there is no Education Section.
In an Edinburgh University classroom this bald Bill Nighy lookalike rattled through primers on seminal daubers from Van Gogh to Mondrian and an exam at the end tested whether the audience had been paying attention. Good clean fun but as close to stand-up as Rothko is to Ricky Gervais.
