Kitchen W8
Too long and drawn out but very entertaining with excellent special effects
This is a peculiar play and does not work for me. Some of it is very funny but there are real flaws
Alex has a strong powerful voice and was faultless, she is far better now than she was on the X-Factor

If Ross Noble resembles a straggly haired tramp, maybe this is understandable. Earlier this year the Melbourne-based Geordie lost his possessions in Australia’s bush fires. Luckily his family survived by the skin of their teeth. And luckily for his audience, his fleet-footed sense of humour survived too.
Anything can happen in Noble’s show, Things, which adeptly mixes set pieces with improvisation prompted by talking to fans. Star Wars, Michael Jackson, people having spasms during Abba hits, his daughter looking like a frisbee, Jeremy Kyle’s slithering style. All is fair game for this freewheeling funnyman. The only quibble is that sometimes his randomised riffing is not so random.
I wondered how long it would be before he mentioned his regular leitmotif, monkeys. They were namechecked during his pre-entrance voiceover.
Comedians always feed off the energy of their audience and Noble’s inventive, inclusive style needs their input more than most. On this night they were slightly becalmed and he still hit frequent bullseyes. With a following wind he would be unbeatable.
