Win Love in the Time of Cholera prizes

After winning both Oscar and BAFTA for his chilling performance as coin-flipping hitman Anton Chigurh in the multi award winning No Country For Old Men, Javier Bardem takes on a very different role next, as Florentino Ariza, the timeless romantic at the heart of Love In The Time of Cholera.

Bardem, who first read and fell in love with Nobel Prize-winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel as a teenager, fought off stiff competition for the role from Johnny Depp, and leapt at the opportunity to be part of the film:

"It's one of those rare books that stays with you your whole life because it is a masterpiece. It is read all over the world in different countries and languages, so everybody has their own Florentino and their own novel in their heads The responsibility and challenge of making a movie based on this beautiful, complex, magical novel is huge; you have to play from 24 until 74 years old. And a movie like this is so complex and so full of detail; you really have to give everything. You cannot hold anything back for yourself."

The film was adapted from renowned Columbian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel of the same title by another Oscar winner - Ronald Harwood (The Pianist, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly).

The film is directed by award winning director Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Donnie Brasco, Four Weddings and a Funeral) and features an excellent cast including Liev Schreiber, Benjamin Bratt, John Leguizamo, Catalina Sandino Moreno and the beautiful Giovanna Mezzogiorno as Fermina Daza, the object of Florentino's affections.
