Win Tickets to Free the Word! 2009

We've got 5 pairs of tickets to give away to the launch event of the Free the Word! 2009 festival of world literature, returning to London for its second year later this month for a long weekend of exciting and explosive storytelling, discussion and debate.

Staged by International PEN, the world writers' association, and hosted at venues across London's Southbank and Bankside between 16th – 19th April, the festival is an opportunity for curious readers to meet writers who may not otherwise appear on UK bookshelves but who shine in other countries.

Showcasing the best writing from around the globe, this year's festival takes the theme Heaven and Earth and features world renowned writers such as Mexican journalist and human rights activist, Lydia Cacho, Iranian novelist and academic Azar Nafisi, and Sudanese author Leila Aboulela alongside emerging voices such as Petina Gappah, a remarkable new talent from Zimbabwe, Norwegian poet Bertrand Besigye and French literary sensation, Florian Zeller.

The festival opening event, Beyond Faith and Reason, at the Shakespeare's Globe on Thursday 16th April, will see Nobel Laureate Nadine Gordimer, novelist, historian and political campaigner Tariq Ali, Palestinian writer Samir El-youssef and award-winning author Tahmima Anam from Bangladesh, read from their work and discuss their experiences of their own cultures.
