But it was a hallowed night for guests at the twinkling St Paul's Knightsbridge where host Sir Trevor McDonald sang Christmas carols with the congregation in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Readings by Thandie Newton and Catherine Tate, trumpeting by the Coldstream Guards and 'O Holy Night' from last year's X Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts left guests ready to donate £135,000. The festivities continued at The Berkeley where grown-ups washed down lobster medallions and mini fish and chip cones with champagne while face painting kept younger ones amused.
