Inside Out: David Linley

Viscount Linley, 47, is a bespoke furniture designer, chairman of Christie's UK and 13th in line to the throne. He has just launched a collection of high-end kitchen accessories, designed in collaboration with Tom Aikens, available from Linley shops and www.davidlinley.com.
'Food and wine are my extravagances,' says David. 'I love Burgundy but my favourite is a Bordeaux - Château Léoville-Barton.' Other luxuries include L'Artisan du Chocolat chocolates, Vacherin from Paxton & Whitfield and Daylesford Organic Christmas hampers. The Linleys do a traditional Christmas. 'I do the cooking,' he says. 'Either goose or turkey - I prefer turkey - and Christmas pudding with heaps of brandy butter on the side.'
He not only cooks but also shoots his own food. 'I love partridge and duck casseroles, and have been known to hunt my own game. It's important to eat off the land where possible. I go to Jago butchers in Chelsea. If you take a bird in there they will pluck it for you. They don't do it for everyone, though.'
Who would join you for a sofa supper?
My wife Serena, son Charles, nine, daughter Margarita, six, and our Dandie Dinmont terriers, Shaggy and Fudge.
What would you eat?
Something light like minestrone or a hearty vegetable soup with soldiers. Or smoked salmon and homemade soda bread.
And for pudding?
Double Gloucester and Duchy Originals cheese biscuits.
And to drink?
A nice crisp Chablis.
What's on the television?
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Match of the Day.
What are your favourite restaurants in the world?
Riva in Barnes. I eat whatever the owner, Andrea Riva, suggests - last time, a superb crayfish and saffron risotto. Assaggi in Notting Hill is a great Italian. I love the lamb chops and fillet of veal. Le Mas Tourteron, in Gordes, Provence. My wife and I go when we are at our house in the South of France. It has a wonderful ambience. Café Pushkin in Moscow does authentic Russian cuisine - boar, duck and venison - elegantly and opulently prepared. I highly recommend Roussillon in Pimlico for Christmas. We went for a family meal a few years ago. It is the best-value Michelin-starred restaurant in London.
