The Wolseley is one of my favourite London restaurants. I am often to be found there after dinner service, tucking into something at the bar, and it now has a whole host of goodies available for sale on its website. Its wonderful Haut-Médoc red wine is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the excellent Château Liversan in the commune of Saint Sauveur (I particularly recommend the rich 2003 vintage).

There is also a great Blanc de Blancs Delamotte from one of France's oldest champagne houses in the village of Le Mesnil sur Ogers, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown on grand cru sites in the Côte des Blancs. If you're looking for present ideas, I also suggest trying the own-label coffee, blended especially for The Wolseley, the delicate China black tea, which has a subtle taste of honey and chestnut, or the olive oil (020 7499 6996; www.thewolseley.com).

Thinking ahead to the big Christmas Day feast, a tasty turkey is paramount. Cowran turkeys range free over Cumbrian pastures, foraging around open fields by day and safely housed in barns at night, which is key, as a stress-free life means a tastier turkey. They are plucked by hand and hung for 14 days, a traditional practice that takes longer than modern methods but greatly enhances the flavour and gives you more tender meat. You can choose from ovenready birds, turkey crown or, for easy cooking, try the ready-boned, rolled and stuffed birds (01229 585 812).
