Tickets going on sale for first Wembley concert

6 Mar 2007

Tickets for the first concert to be played at the new Wembley Stadium go on sale Thursday morning.

George Michael will be the first musician to perform at the national stadium when he takes the stage on June 9.

Bon Jovi were booked to open the stadium last year, but were forced to move venue, along with the Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Take That, when building work at the stadium overran.

Michael is no stranger to Wembley, having played at the old venue during Live Aid in 1985, Wham's farewell concert in 1986, the Nelson Mandela concert in 1988 and Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992.

The British leg of the singer's world tour will also include shows in Norwich, Manchester, Glasgow and Plymouth.

Tickets on sale at 10am March 8 (0870 380 0148, www.ticketmaster.co.uk).
