Will Young to play Proms In The Park

3 Aug 2007

Will Young is to perform at this year's BBC Proms In The Park.

The former Pop Idol winner will appear in London's Hyde Park alongside Lesley Garrett.

Sir Terry Wogan will host the event on September 8, which culminates in a big screen link-up to the Royal Albert Hall for the Last Night Of The Proms.

Proms In The Park is now in its 12th year and aims to bring the Proms to a mass audience.

Other artists on the bill include Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez, while the afternoon warm-up event features former Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley and X Factor finalist Chico.

There are five Proms In The Park concerts being held across the UK. The venues are London, Glasgow, Belfast, Middlesbrough and Swansea.

This is excellent news. I really hope Will uses this great opportunity with the BBC Concert Orchestra to pull out all the stops and show what a brilliant live performer he really is to the worldwide audience. Hope we get to see ALL of his performance on TV this time. If it's anything like his performance at the Mermaid Theatre many years ago for BBC Radio 2, it will be a tremendous evening.

I think it is brilliant that Will is going to perform at the Proms in the Park. It will give everyone the chance to see what a great entertainer he is.

After the debacle of the Diana concert when his set was cut, I hope that we will see his whole performance.
