The Big Draw

Launches 30 September, events from 1 October
V & A Museum of Childhood

Quentin Blake will launch a month of events designed to encourage people to draw.

The artist will "release" a flock of paper birds to kick start the Big Draw programme at the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green on Sunday.

Fellow artists including Gavin Turk, Posy Simmonds and Zandra Rhodes will draw on a huge canvas, or "celebrity frame". It is one of more than 40 activities to take place in Hackney and Tower Hamlets on the day with a free bus linking them.

From Monday until the end of October, there will be events across London at venues including the Design Museum, London Zoo, the Royal Armouries and HMS Belfast. On 13 and 14 October, professionals and amateurs including Andrew Marr and Gerald Scarfe will take part in drawing games and workshops in Covent Garden.

The Big Draw is organised by the Campaign for Drawing charity, whose patrons include Lord Foster.
