Olympic Torch Relay

Various locations across London, 6 April

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games torch will arrive in Wembley Stadium on 6 April, ready to begin a tour across London.

The torch relay takes in 22 cities on five continents, before arriving back in Beijing for the start of this year's Games on 8th August.

London's leg of the relay will pass through some of the capital's most iconic landmarks, before finishing up at the O2 Arena.

Olympic heroes such as double gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes will join young Londoners to carry the flame through ten London boroughs and spectators can line the route to cheer on the torchbearers and enjoy free entertainment.

The day culminates in a free, ticketed event at the O2.

I was at Wembley yesterday. Apart from a tiny skuffle at the bus I was not aware of any protesters. What I was aware of was a totally 3rd rate event put on by Brent. Where was our pride and experience in putting on events such as this? It was so low key as be possibly organized by some local school child. I have seen more exciting events at a local fete. Are we so politically correct that we cannot present the true wonder of a major sporting venue hosting such an event? A few local dance groups made a brave effort especially the Irish dance troupe, but on the whole a sad effort.

It would be good to know if any of the hundreds of millions of Chinese peasants will benefit from these Olympic games. And if human rights for Tibet and the many minority populations are respected. Stop the genocide in China. Open your eyes and stop thinking of profits before human beings. Ban Chinese made goods - hard to do in Britain! The same Government responsible for the massacre in Tieaneman Square is now to glorify in the kudos of the Olympics. Not a good omen for the people of the world - WATCH OUT...

I hope all people bearing the torch will also carry a small flag of Tibet, to show their opposition to Chinese policy in Tibet alongside their obvious support for the Olympic ideal.
