Museums and Galleries Month

Londoners are being offered the chance to visit their favourite museums and galleries at night.

As part of Museums at Night Weekend, venues across the city will stay open after hours from Friday 16 May to Sunday 18 May, offering late-night tours for visitors. The Science Museum in South Kensington will be hosting a sleepover.

The scheme is part of Museums and Galleries Month, the biggest national celebration of its kind.

Other events taking place next month include a Chinese London trail, which will link collections from the V&A and the British Museum to the Croydon Museum with a stopover in Chinatown.

Alternative trails include an Ideas and Innovation in Medicine trail, in conjunction with the London Medical Museums Group, and a War and Peace trail.

The Imperial War Museum is staging a special exhibition — For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond, The Secret War — exploring the gadgets used by the author's spy character.

Meanwhile, Tate Modern's Turbine Hall will be transformed for the bank holiday weekend at the end of May to host a Flux-Olympiad, featuring a series of surreal sports events including stilt football and balloon shotput.
