London office workers worried about missing any of the Olympic action from Beijing this summer will now be able to watch Team GB going for gold in Trafalgar Square.

A giant screen is being erected at the foot of Nelson's Column to allow thousands of people to keep up to date with all the Olympic news through their lunch hours. It will provide the perfect space for anyone who wants to soak up the London sunshine without missing any of the excitement from China.

The action gets underway with the opening ceremony on Friday 8th August and events will be screened daily from 8am until 9pm throughout the following fortnight. The sporting feast culminates on Sunday 23rd August when the closing ceremony and handover of the Olympic flag to London takes place. There will then be a concert for 40,000 people on the Strand to celebrate London's Olympiad.

Running alongside the sport, Trafalgar Square will also host its annual cultural festival, appropriately called the Trafalgar Square Festival. The festival will see street performers entertain the crowds every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for three weeks, with the first event taking place on Thursday 7th August.

Mayor Boris Johnson said that the festival “will capture the excitement and anticipation during the Olympic Games and celebrate the relationship between sport and culture as London prepares to stage the Cultural Olympiad.”
