Body Worlds
The world's first plastinated giraffe

All on display at BODY WORLDS

Already seen by more than 26 million people internationally, BODY WORLDS is an exhibition with a difference.

Anatomy, physiology and health are presented in a vivid light with real human bodies on display.

The bodies have been preserved by a process called Plastination – a groundbreaking method for preservation invented by Dr Gunther von Hagens in 1977.

BODY WORLDS & The Mirror of Time has introduced the concept to the UK. Based at The 02, it features over 200 real specimens and has a special focus on health, wellbeing and the ageing process. The effect of disease and lifestyle on the anatomy is also demonstrated through shocking exhibits. Those looking for a way to give up cigarettes may want to pay particular attention to the lungs of a smoker.

And it is not just humans that are on show. The world's first-ever plastinated giraffe and a galloping horse add to the surreal atmosphere.

One thing is for sure, you won't have seen an exhibiton like BODY WORLDS before.

BODY WORLDS & The Mirror of Time is exclusively at The O2 until August.

I visited this amazing exhibition recently at The O2 and was truly blown away by the exhibits. On entry there is the foetal section and you get to see the foetus from conception up to several weeks.

Moving on through the galleries there is a range of specimens and whole body plastinates. There is definitely an art to this as the whole body plastinates are in poses of action. Very creatively exhibited indeed. As a sports fan the basketball player and the rugby players in action motion poses are fantastic.

As for the body part specimens there are some great exhibits. The two lungs, one of a smoker and one of a non smoker is fascinating, I'm sure it will give smokers food for thought. When you reach the final gallery you are hit with this enormous giraffe plastinate which you can't help but stand and stare at! It was definitely the highlight for me. How Dr. Gunther von Hagens managed to plastinate a fully grown giraffe is beyond me but it is truly remarkable.

I found the whole experience extremely educational as I invested £3 in an audio guide and the facts and information I was listening to were fascinating. Well worth £3 and made my visit more enjoyable.

If I was to recommend this exhibition to anyone it would be to ordinary everyday people who want to know more about the human body, disease and the ageing process. I also think this exhibition would appeal to those from the art communities, obviously the medical community and sports fans. Do not miss this!!!
