Booking opened this morning for next month's BBC Electric Proms, which present an array of intriguing concerts. Triple number-one star Dizzee Rascal appears with a live band and an orchestra for the first time; Doves perform with a 40-strong choir; Florence and the Machine team up with dance act Metronomy and Motown legend Smokey Robinson, once labelled America's greatest songwriter by Bob Dylan, closes the festival.

Bafta-winning impressionist and actor Alistair McGowan has written his first play, which explores love, work, fatherhood “and all the difficult decisions that men and women have to make together”. It's directed by Tamara Harvey and stars Edward Baker-Duly and Louise Ford — and look out for Dean Gaffney, best known as Robbie Jackson in EastEnders.
