Switch on: Regent Street will light up

            Regent Street

Entertainment: The Noisttes are set to perform at the event

The Regent Street Christmas lights will be switched on tonight as part of the first ever joint West End switch-on with Oxford Street.

At the same time, the City of London will join in the celebrations to mark the launch of the festive season in London.

The event will coincide with the world premiere of Disney's A Christmas Carol in Leicester Square with both famous shopping streets sharing the theme.

Colin Firth will push the button to light up Regent Street and Jim Carrey will light up Oxford Street whilst Bob Hoskins is to get the festivities underway in the very heart of Dickens' London, at St Paul's Cathedral.

The Regent Street stage will host indie pop rock band The Noisettes and MTV Europe Award nominee Daniel Merriweather.

There will also be earlier performances beginning at 5pm from the winner of the BBC television series I'd Do Anything, Jodie Prenger who is currently starring in the hit West End musical Oliver!

The London Community Gospel Choir are also be on board to ensure some great entertainment.
